Bangkok Airport Transfer Guide
Everything you need to know about getting from the airport to your hotel in Bangkok
Bangkok has two airports — Suvarnabhumi (BKK) for most international and full-service flights, and Don Mueang (DMK) for budget carriers. Both are well-connected to the city but the transfer experience is very different. Suvarnabhumi has the Airport Rail Link, metered taxis and Grab. Don Mueang has buses and taxis but no rail link. Bangkok traffic is legendary — the same journey can take 30 minutes or 2 hours depending on time of day.

Bangkok Don Mueang Airport (DMK) — 24 km to city center, travel time 30–75 min, transfers from $7.

The Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi reaches Phaya Thai station in 30 minutes for 45 THB — excellent for solo travelers heading to the BTS line. But it doesn't go to Khao San, Silom or the riverside directly. Metered taxis cost 250–400 THB to central Bangkok plus 50 THB surcharge and tolls. Grab is similar but avoids meter disputes. A pre-booked private transfer costs $10–20 and takes you door-to-door with a driver waiting at arrivals.
For families, groups of 2+ or anyone arriving late at night, a pre-booked transfer is the best option. Solo travelers on a budget should take the Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi. From Don Mueang, a pre-booked transfer or Grab is recommended as there is no rail connection.
Bangkok rush hours (7–9 AM, 4–7 PM) can double your transfer time. Avoid arriving during these windows if possible. The expressway is faster but adds 50–75 THB in tolls (you pay). Always confirm which airport your flight uses — BKK and DMK are 30 km apart and a mistake is expensive.
